Arch Oboler hosts and plays himself in this story.  Arch has trouble coming up with a good story for the next show, but he's been thinking about a terrible monster for the past week.  Suddenly the monster he created in his own mind appears in the room with him.  The monster commits murders that Arch is blamed for, because no one sees it but him.

[audio]Mae West Banned From NBC Radio - WA4CZD
Infamous December 12, 1937 episode of The Chase & Sanborn Hour that the FCC said was "indecent." Arch Oboler's sketch "Adam and Eve" featured Mae West as an unrepentant Eve (with Don Ameche's Adam). It got Mae West banned from NBC radio and she didn't appear on radio again until 1950. Time Magazine said NBC received 1,000 complaint letters http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,758999,00.html (behind a paywall but you can see part of it)...

[audio]Mae West Banned From Radio - WA4CZD
Mae West was a guest on the December 12, 1937 episode of The Chase and Sanborn Hour and played an unrepentant Eve in an "Adam and Eve" skit by Arch Oboler. It caused an uproar and the FCC found that it "violated the ethics of decency." NBC issued an apology during the next show (but I don't have that episode. Mae West didn't appear on the radio again until 1950. More in the google news archives: http://tinyurl.com/9tkqyyf

[audio]Biography in Sound - WA4CZD
Biography in Sound was an hour-long documentary radio program that was produced and broadcast in the 1950s. It's one of the best examples of radio excellence - the production is exemplary and I find every episode to be compelling. It's one of my favorites; I don't understand why it isn't more well known!
